Timeline: NBC host Savannah Guthrie’s mother disappears as sheriff says 'everybody’s still a suspect'

TUCSON, Ariz. – Authorities believe Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of NBC "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie, was abducted or kidnapped from her Tucson home, where she was last seen  on Saturday, Jan. 31.

Here's a timeline of events:

Saturday, Jan. 31:

Jan. 31 at 5:32 p.m.: 

Nancy Guthrie travels to her family's home for dinner.

Jan. 31 at 9:48 p.m.: 

The Pima County Sheriff's Department says Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her residence near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue on Saturday evening. Nancy Guthrie's children dropped her off at the home at around 9:45 p.m., Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said. 

Jan. 31 at 9:50 p.m.: 

Nancy Guthrie's garage door closes.

Sunday, Feb. 1: 

Feb. 1 at 1:47 a.m.: 

The doorbell camera at Nancy Guthrie's home disconnects.

Feb. 1 at 2:12 a.m.:

A security camera detected motion on camera at Nancy Guthrie's home. The Pima County Sheriff's Department noted that there was no video available because a subscription wasn't active.

Feb. 1 at 2:28 a.m. 

Nancy Guthrie's pacemaker disconnected from the application on her phone.

Feb. 1 at 11:00 a.m.: 

Nanos said Nancy Guthrie didn't attend her church service, adding that her family was notified about the absence by a churchgoer. Officials said family members went to Nancy Guthrie's home at around 11 a.m. and spent some time looking for her.

Feb 1 at 11:56 a.m.:

Feb. 1 at 12:03 p.m.:

The law enforcement source also said that there were "blood drops" leading from the entryway outside down the house's pathway towards the driveway.

Feb. 1 at 12:15 p.m.: 

Sheriff's deputies arrive at Nancy Guthrie's home.

Feb. 1 at 8:55 p.m.: 

The Pima County Sheriff's Department says they've begun search and rescue efforts using helicopters, infrared cameras and drones to search for the missing 84-year-old. During a news conference on Sunday night, Nanos said they found evidence that raised "some concerns" at Nancy Guthrie's home.

"We’re pretty much just throwing everything at this that we can. Guthrie is 84 years old and is not of good physical health, and so naturally that’s a great concern," Nanos said. "This is very concerning to us. We don’t typically get the sheriff out at a scene like this. But it’s very concerning what we’re learning from the house."

Monday, Feb. 2:

Feb. 2 at 9:17 a.m.:

Nanos said during a news conference that Nancy Guthrie didn't leave the house on her own accord, adding that a crime had been committed. He said the search and rescue mission had been shut down to give that team time to rest.

"We believe now, after we processed that crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime scene that we do, in fact, have a crime," Nanos said. "She did not leave on her own. We know that."

"We don't see this as a search mission as much as we do a crime scene," he added.

Nanos noted that Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and has medication that she needs to take every 24 hours, which could be fatal if not taken. He said Nancy Guthrie "is of great sound mind" besides her physical ailments, adding she's "sharp as a tack."

Investigators were seen in the area where Nancy Guthrie lives, including sheriff's department helicopters.

"We need her back. We need to find her, and time is very critical. She is 84. She needs her meds," Nanos said.

Wednesday, Feb. 4:

Savannah Guthrie publicly asks anyone holding her mother to provide proof that she is alive.

Thursday, Feb. 5: 

Authorities confirm blood found at the home belonged to Guthrie through DNA testing.

Nanos says no suspects or persons of interest have been identified, adding that "everybody is still a suspect in our eyes."

Guthrie’s son, Camron Guthrie, releases a video appeal pleading for contact from his mother’s captors.

Authorities announce an arrest connected to an imposter ransom demand, which investigators say is unrelated to Guthrie’s disappearance.

Friday, Feb. 6: 

The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department say investigators are reviewing a "new message" and are working to determine its authenticity.

13 News, the local station that received the message, says it does not contain proof of life. 

Federal authorities reaffirm a $50,000 reward for information related to Guthrie’s disappearance.

Friday evening:

FBI investigators return to Guthrie's home, swiftly clearing the media from the immediate area. They search the property again, including a sweep of the roof. 

A Fox News drone captures an agent appearing to remove a white cylindrical device from a ledge overlooking a courtyard on the property. 

Authorities later remove a blue SUV from Guthrie's garage and tow it to an impound lot. 

Details about why the car was towed were not released.

Around the same time, more law enforcement officials return to the home of Annie Guthrie, Nancy's eldest daughter. They spend only a few minutes on the property before promptly returning. 

President Donald Trump tells reporters aboard Air Force One that he believes the case could soon be solved.

"I think we're doing very well on that regard," Trump said. "We have some clues, I think, that are very strong. And I think we could have some answers coming up fairly soon." 

"I'm talking about a solution. We have some things I think that will maybe come out reasonably soon from DOJ or FBI, or whoever," he continued. "It could be definitive."

Saturday, Feb. 7:

Saturday, Feb. 7 at about 4:30 p.m.: 

Savannah Guthrie shares a new video on her Instagram account telling her mother's potential captors the family received their "message," and they "will pay."

"We received your message and we understand. We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her," Savannah Guthrie said. "This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay."

During the video, Savannah Guthrie was sitting between her siblings, Camron and Annie, holding their hands.

The family had previously posted two other videos pleading with the potential captors for her return.

All three videos were captioned, "Bring her home." However, unlike in the previous posts, the family did not request proof of life in the latest video.

It is unclear if the video is a response to the "new message" received by a local news station on Friday.

Saturday, Feb. 7 at 7:10 p.m.: 

Pima County Sheriff’s Department deputies are spotted at Guthrie's home.

Sunday, Feb. 8:

Sunday, Feb. 8 at 12:57 p.m.:

The Pima County Sheriff's office provided a short update on the investigation, but revealed no new information.

"The Nancy Guthrie investigation is ongoing. Follow-up continues at multiple locations," the agency said on X. "No suspects, persons of interest, or vehicles have been identified. No scheduled press briefings. If any significant developments occur in the case, a press conference will be called."

Sunday, Feb. 8 at 5:15 p.m.:

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Sunday night that it will maintain a security presence at Nancy Guthrie’s residence at the request of her family. The authorities reminded the public and media that no trespassing will be tolerated.

Monday, Feb. 9:

Monday morning:

NBC's Tom Winter, NBC News national law enforcement and intelligence correspondent, reported on "Today" that investigators were conducting additional searches to check if there was any potential evidence missed during previous searches. 

He also reported that a Saturday night search at Annie Guthrie's home "was consented to." 

Monday, Feb. 9 at 3:42 p.m. 

Savannah Guthrie took to her own Instagram account to ask the public to help bring her mother home. 

"Thank you so much for all of the prayers and the love that we have felt," Guthrie said.

"My sister and brother and I and our mom have felt this love, because we believe that somehow, somehow, she is feeling these prayers and that God is lifting her, even in this moment and in this darkest place."

"We believe our mom is still out there," she added.

"We need your help. Law enforcement is working tirelessly around the clock trying to bring her home, trying to find her.

"She was taken, and we don't know where. And we need your help," she said.

Pima County Sheriff's officials announced on their X account that no briefings were planned ahead of the alleged ransom deadline.

"Should a significant development occur, a press conference will be called, & media will be notified via email & our @pimasheriff X account," the post read. 

Monday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m.

The second alleged ransom deadline passes in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. 

Following the deadline, the sheriff’s office also confirmed an "active law enforcement presence" at the Guthrie residences will continue tonight and into tomorrow as part of the ongoing investigative process, including the expansion of the search and follow-up on new leads.

Tuesday, Feb. 10:

Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 12:52 p.m.:

FBI Director Kash Patel releases four images of a "subject" on Nancy Guthrie's property. The subject appears covered head to toe, wearing a ski mask and gloves, and what appears to be a holstered gun. 

Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 12:59 p.m.:

Savannah Guthrie posts the photos to her Instagram account, and shares a brief message with her followers.

"Someone out there recognizes this person. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home."

Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 1:11 p.m.:

Patel releases a video of the subject approaching Guthrie's home. In the video, the subject ducks his head in the opposite direction of the doorbell camera. 

Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 9:18 p.m.:

Carlos Palazuelos of Rio Rico, Arizona was detained and questioned by authorities in relation to the case. An address associated with him, located in the tiny desert town just north of the border with Mexico, was searched. 

Wednesday, Feb. 11:

Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 3:07 a.m.: 

Investigators release Palazuelos, remove police tape and clear out from the Rio Rico address.

Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 10:16 a.m.:

TMZ founder Harvey Levin says outlet received a third letter, from someone claiming to know the identity of Nancy's kidnapper, and demanding one Bitcoin. The letter reportedly said that the person had tried to contact Savannah, Annie and Camron directly. 

Wednesday afternoon:

Authorities reportedly find a "set" of gloves near Nancy Guthrie's home.

Thursday, Feb. 12:

Thursday, Feb. 12 at 10:48 a.m.: 

A white tent is erected outside of Nancy Guthrie's home, and investigators shuffle in and out. 

Thursday, Feb. 12 at 6:04 p.m.:

The FBI announced that its reward for information leading to the location of Nancy  and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance was raised to $100,000. 

The agency also provided more descriptors for the man seen on doorbell camera footage outside her home the night of the suspected kidnapping, describing him as between 5'9" and 5'10" tall, and officially labeling him as a suspect. 

The FBI also said he was wearing a black 25-liter ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack.
